ENGLISH: (FRANÇAIS CI-DESSOUS...patientez!) 2012 is coming to an end & looking back: the year has been quite a wild one with joyful, sad, and intense moments for all of us. Turbo Folk Stories was launched in February and received critical success yay!, but only a few weeks later Briga's father passed away after a 3 1/2 yr battle with Multiple Myeloma. Somewhere in a cloud of grief on an April afternoon before the Montreal student protests would begin for the evening, Briga & the band were eating vegan-chinese food when she opened up a fortune cookie and it said 5 times: "All your hard work will soon pay off". Summer gave them a few Festival shows in British Columbia but no funding to fly out there, so Briga picked-up some extra sideman gigs + a part time job to pay the airfare. Folks loved the show, bought the CD & begged for more. Seeing Briga edge over to workaholism, keyboardist Alix Noël whispered into her ear "listen to me girl, grief is a funny beast and if you don't turn around + face it now, it'll creep up behind you and bite." ...yet summer still flew by... The fall saw Turbo Folk Stories get nominated forBest Album - Pushing Boundaries @ The Canadian Folk Music Awards, and @ Québec's ADISQ awardsfor Best Album - World Music, both big honors to receive. Maybe the fortune cookie was right after all? Who knows... If so, let's take a small break to celebrate, and grieve... you know: digest all of these conflicting emotions we may have been feeling about 2012. Briga & the Band will be ringing in 2013 withBalkan Beats Montreal East's DJ Touski @ Le Divan Orange.Come join us ;) It'll also be a great way to celebrate what's coming up. Briga hitsAPAP in New York City this January, as well as the Folk Alliance Showcase in Toronto this February... and there's more great news to announce, come but we'll wait a bit before telling you ;) FRANÇAIS: Briga et son biscuit chinois! L'année 2012 nous apporta beaucoup de beaux moments, en plus d'histoires controversées bien accompagnées de sentiments fort. Le lancement du disque Contes Turbo Folk au mois de février 2012 remporte de belles critiques, et même pas quelques semaines plus tard Briga apprends du décès de son père dû à la Myéliome Multiple. Un après-midi en avril, juste avant que les manifestations d'étudiants à Montréal commencent, Briga (quelque part dans un brume de chagrin) bouffe du végé-chinois avec sa gang, et quand c'est à son tour de casser le biscuit chinois, elle lit 5 fois: "Votre dur labeur sera bientôt récompensé". L'été remporte quelques concerts en Colombie-Britannique, mais aucune subvention de déplacement. Pour financer les billets d'avion, Briga joue plus de contrats d'accompagnement et prends un boulot à temps partiel. Les spectateurs sont envoutés, achètent le CD et en supplient pour plus! La voyant devenir un bourreau de travail, Alix Noël(claviériste) lui chuchote "Écoute bien ma petite: le deuil est une drôle de bête et si tu ne l'écoute pas maintenant, elle te mordra plus tard." ...Tout cela dit, l'été disparaît vite quand même... L'automne témoigne Les Contes Turbo Folk en nomination à L'ADISQ pour Meilleur Album - Musique du Monde, en plus d'une nomination auxPrix Canadien de Musique Folk pour Meilleur Album - Innovation Musicale. Peut-être que le biscuit chinois avait raison? Qui le sait... Prenons une pause pour fêter nos petits succès, en plus de prendre le temps de vivre le deuil... t'sé: bien digérer toutes ces émotions contradictoires que plusieurs d'entre nous ont pu témoigner cette année pour différentes raisons. Briga et ses musiciens fêteront la veille du jour de l'an avec DJ Touski et Balkan Beats Montreal Est au Divan Orange. Venez vous souler, rire et pleurer avec nous ;) Nous allons aussi fêter la rentrée de l'année 2013, qui nous ouvre ses portes avec un concert au showcase APAP à New York City en Janvier, suivit du Folk Alliance à Toronto au mois de février. Briga hits R.O.C ("reste" of Canada = Ontario) this October 2011

What does it look like when Briga & the Band hits the road in the provice of Québec? Well... kinda like the pic you see above. Now imagine them heading out to the province ofOntario. Pretty much the same idea, only this timeAlix (dude to the left w/sunglasses) won't be able "borrow" this blue minivan from another Montréal band and shamelessly put 800km on it like last time. Nope, Briga & the Band will be repenting for their bad behaviour, honoring the environment, and taking advantage of Megabus' seat sale to come out and play Toronto Thursday, October 13th...
